What is a Community Interest Company (CIC)?

A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a type of limited company designed for organisations that want to use their profits and assets for the public good. It operates like a business but exists primarily to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. Any surplus generated is reinvested into the organisation and its activities, helping to deliver positive social impact and long-term community benefit.

Why did Greater Peterborough Network become a CIC?

Greater Peterborough Network became a Community Interest Company to formalise its commitment to delivering social value and ensuring that its work continues to benefit the communities it serves.

As a CIC, GPN has a clear legal structure that reflects its not-for-profit ethos, providing assurance that any surplus generated will be reinvested into improving services, supporting member practices, and delivering positive outcomes for local people.

Becoming a CIC also strengthens GPN’s ability to work collaboratively with NHS organisations, local authorities, and other public sector partners. The status supports integrated working across health and care systems, enhances transparency and accountability, and reinforces GPN’s purpose as a community-focused organisation.

This change provides a strong foundation for future growth, helping GPN to develop innovative services, build trusted partnerships, and continue making a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of local communities.
