Improving Access to
Primary Care
The GP Hub provides patients across Peterborough with greater access to routine appointments outside of normal practice hours. Delivered in partnership with our Member Practices, our multidisciplinary team offers flexible, high-quality care that improves access, reduces health inequalities and gives patients more choice over when and where they receive care.
By expanding primary care capacity beyond core Enhanced Access requirements, we continue to support our practices while ensuring more patients can access the care they need, when they need it.
GP Hub
The GP Hub operates from the Peterborough City Care Centre and is open:
- Monday to Friday: 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
- Saturday: 8:30 am – 6:30 pm
The GP Hub provides routine appointments outside core practice hours for patients registered with Peterborough GP practices, improving access to primary care across the city. Delivered by GPN in partnership with local practices, the service offers a multi-disciplinary team including GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), Practice Nurses, Paramedics and Health Care Assistants (HCAs).
Designed to meet the diverse access needs of Peterborough’s population, the GP Hub particularly supports patients who find it difficult to attend appointments during standard daytime hours. The service helps reduce health inequalities and prevent avoidable use of urgent and emergency NHS services.
GPN works collaboratively with member practices to understand local population needs and ensure appropriate services are available for both patients and practices. The Hub provides high-quality primary care through a dedicated clinical team and offers services such as wound dressings outside normal practice hours, ensuring patients can be treated in the most appropriate setting rather than attending the Emergency Department.
Peterborough has a diverse and often working population, many of whom may struggle to attend appointments during the day. Without accessible alternatives, this can lead to disengagement from healthcare or inappropriate use of out-of-hours NHS services. By extending opening hours beyond the core Extended Access requirements, the GP Hub ensures more equitable access to care for all patients.
These additional appointments ensure patients can access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
